In swimming, learning doesn’t stop – it grows with every lesson, every learner, and every experience. That’s why Water Safety Matters created the Swimming Mini Boost Series – short, accessible bursts of insight designed to help teachers, swimmers, schools, and parents feel more confident and capable in and around the water.
Mini Boosts are exactly that – quick, practical learning moments that you can read, watch, or share in just a few minutes. Each one focuses on a single idea: a reflection, a teaching tip, or a spark of inspiration that can shift how you think, teach, or communicate.
They’re designed for real people doing real work – swimming teachers, schools, parents, and swimmers – who want clear, honest, and easy-to-access knowledge that fits around busy lives.
Every Mini Boost is a snapshot of insight – and for those who want to go further, Water Safety Matters offers extended versions through exclusive subscription access, where each topic is explored in depth through videos, demonstrations, and practical guidance.
When working with young children, silence isn’t wasted time – it’s where understanding happens. Their brains are still connecting what they hear, see, and do. Pause after you speak. Watch their faces. Understanding lives in that moment.
Buoyancy isn’t just a floating skill – it’s the foundation of all movement in the water. When swimmers understand how to use their body position, lungs, and balance to support buoyancy, every skill becomes easier to learn. Before correcting technique, first help them feel their natural float and find their balance point.
When correcting a breaststroke kick, try this: sit the swimmer on the pool wall and balance a circular sinker on each foot. Ask them to draw small circles with their heels while keeping the sinkers in place – it encourages them to turn their feet up and out correctly. A simple visual cue that builds muscle memory without complicated language.
Your legs don’t power your swimming – they balance it. Most propulsion comes from your upper body, while the legs provide rhythm and stability. Focus on smooth, steady kicks that help balance the body rather than force speed.
When a child freezes at the poolside, it’s rarely defiance – it’s fear. A calm voice, gentle reassurance, and a consistent approach help turn anxiety into courage.
When you share one piece of water safety knowledge, you might save a life without even knowing it. Every shared reminder, “float to live’- to a colleague, parent, or swimmer – creates awareness that ripples outwards.
The Mini Boosts are just the starting point.
Subscribers to Water Safety Matters gain access to the full Boost Series — extended learning that dives deeper into each topic with:
• Short videos and practical demonstrations
• Downloadable resources and reflection prompts
• Step-by-step teaching examples for real-world application
Each topic explores the how as well as the why — helping teachers, swimmers, and schools put knowledge into practice with confidence.
It’s professional development made flexible:
Quick ideas when you need them. Deeper learning when you’re ready.
Whether you teach, swim, support, or simply love the water, there’s always something new to learn. The Mini Boosts make that learning simple, inspiring, and accessible – because when knowledge grows, confidence follows.
